The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) looks after patients who are admitted for urgent investigation or care by their GP, an outpatient clinic or the Emergency Department. Adults who are in hospital with a medical emergency that has no exact known cause have an assessment and their initial treatment in an acute medical unit. There is always a nurse in charge on shift and so please feel free to ask to talk to them for any concerns.
